2017 Review:
Wem USC had a disappointing season despite an excellent start after beating Meole Brace 10-4 and Hanmer 13-1. But a poor run in the middle of the season after winning just once in 9 games, including a heartbreaking one chalk loss to Castlefields, send them to the bottom and they failed to recover. Their away form was terrible, getting just 34 points, and with their home green not getting them results, they finished bottom and faced the dreaded playoff. But after they won the Shropshire Star Cup, confidence came back and they were able to defeat Hadley USC in the Playoff Final to keep their place in the league.
They only won one cup game, against Bylet by 2 in the Pool B.
2018 Aims:
Wem will be looking at improving considerably after last season and have made signings to try and move away from trouble. Pete Bound, Steve Cox, Carl Preece and Curtis Metcalfe have all signed which will give optimism and competition for places. They need to improve their home form to get some of the big wins they lacked last season, while away they need to start picking up more 4s & 5s rather than 1s & 2s. Most players under-performed last season and they need to give some support to Derek Wright who finished top 10 of the League Averages. They have a tough draw in the Alan Mayhew against Newport, which means progress will be difficult.
