Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
The Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League has nearly half of the field in the St Georges Open Finals Day. Castlefields boast the most players in the field with five, including last year’s players in the Champion of Champions final. Winner Mike Beer takes on Wrockwardine Wood’s Dan Taylor, hoping to recreate the form that saw him win the 2016 Staffodshire Senior Merit. Runner-up Callum Wraight has a tough first round game against Paul Lamb who was imperious in qualifying. Mark Taylor is a former homester and plays new Sir John Bayley joint captain Scott Simpson, the current holder in its previous guise as the ECC open. Jon Palmer returns to the Fields this season and faces current Autumn Waterloo Champion Wayne Ditchfield last on, while former League Averages Winner Paul Williams plays Glen Herbert. Scott has two fellow Bayley team mates in the field, Paul Evans plays reigning All England Champion Darren Plenderleith, while Ant Bracken plays Tommy Johnstone in a cracker of a tie. Newport have two players in the field with former Dragon Pete Farmer playing part time Ifton player Andrew Hughes and new captain Sam Millward, having qualified for all three Midland competitions, playing former League Merit champion James Grimston, who played for Bowring in 2016. Chester Road’s former League Merit champion Martin Lloyd takes on Dan Petcher, while Ifton’s Leighton Roberts has a tough tie against Simon Coupe, and Dan Bodley, signed this season for Wrockwardine Wood, plays Steve Morrey.
It promises to be a cracking day of action at St Georges from 10 a.m. There will be hot and cold food on all day while Duncan Reeves will be the bookmaker on site.
