2017 Review:
St Georges had an alright season in finishing 4th, which was a place below their 2016 finish. Despite a 9-5 win at Chester Road they had a slow start away, and after scoring 24 off their first two home games, they lost at home to Bylet. However they bounced back with some good home wins until Newport came and won the aggregate there with 5 winners. Their away form was better later in the season, always scoring 4 or above and winning at Wem USC. However a home draw with Hanmer meant they were in danger of falling out of the top four but a 12-2 win over Bowring in the last game leapt them above their opponents into 4th place. They had a disappointing Alan Mayhew Trophy losing first round, but did reach the final of the Pool A, although were hammered by Sir John Bayley.
2018 Aims:
St Georges will have to cope with the loss of Glyn Picknell and Mike Wainwright for this season, but have signed Nick Wyer and John Cooke. They still have an excellent core of players, but they need that strength in depth if they are to challenge the top teams. They will want to remove those three blips at home from last season, as well as continuing their good away form and winning a couple more if they can. They have drawn Castlefields in the cup which will be a very tough game.
