2017 Review:
Newport enjoyed a great comeback to form after their disappointing 2016 season, and if it hadn’t have been for the two losses at home against the top two, then it could have been a different story. They also suffered in the first two games with key players out, and were always playing catch up since that date. They did though enjoy excellent away form, winning at Bylet, Hanmer, Wem USC and St Georges and getting 6 at Hanwood and 7 at Meole Brace. Apart from those home loses, they had great home form, getting back to the time when they dominated there. In the Alan Mayhew Trophy they lost to Castlefields 1st round after playing two ineligible players, and lost to Bowring in the 1st round of the Pool A.
2018 Aims:
Newport will be aiming to push on from last season and with the return of Dave Rhodes and signings of Paul Reeves and Tom Langford they should be able to do so. Remaining unbeaten at home will be the cornerstone of this, as their away form was so good apart from the odd matches. They will want a much better start this time round but the fixtures are kinder for them this time around. They’ve drawn Wem USC in the Alan Mayhew Trophy, so will think they can get past that.
