2017 Review:
Sir John Bayley improved by a point from their title win in 2016 but came up short in defending their title. They enjoyed a good start, with a 10-4 win at Ifton but then got whitewashed at Burway. They did though bounce back with a great 11-3 win at Chester Road. They fought back from 6-0 down against Castlefields to win with 5 winners but were on the back foot from then on. They had great home form and won at Newport too, but then got 3 at St Georges, when having four 20 losers, and lost by just 2 at Hanwood. After getting a good 5 at Castlefields they still only had an outside chance of winning the title, and that went with a home loss against Bylet. A late rally with an 11-3 win at Wem USC and whitewash of Meole Brace was to little too late. They continued this form though and won the Pool A convincingly.
2018 Aims:
Sir John Bayley will want to reclaim their title and have made signings in order to do so. Elliot McGuinness, Kieran Buckley and John Potter have all come in, along with Ant Bracken playing more games, but they have lost Paul Reeves and possibly Alex Jones, and as well as the limited availability of Rob Burroughs, means it’s a changed side. They will want to keep their home form up, and put right the blip against the Bylet. They had good away form, but just need that little bit more consistency to ensure no more poor results. They have drawn Bowring in the Alan Mayhew Trophy, so will think they should be going through.
