Wrockites face tough Fields test, Bayley meet Hanwood, Burway look to push on
Wrockwardine Wood face a tough test against Champions Castlefields in week 13 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League but it may be a good time to play them. With the Isle of Man Festival this week the Fields will be missing key men including Callum Wraight. Wrockwardine captain Rob Jones is “looking forward to welcoming our Shrewsbury visitors in what should be a good game, with both sides one or two players short on the night it could depend on who comes in on both sides.” Castlefields skipper Alan Peach says “we have a very difficult game on at Wrockwardine Wood. Our last 3 results there have been 5/6/3. We recently played them in the county cup and they really came out of the traps. Led after 8 and I was a bit worried but in the end strength in depth told. They have some really good players and we are not at full strength so it will be even more difficult. But I’m sure the lads who have come in will give their best as we have to try and win every game, especially the tight games. I’m sure after we defeated them in the county cup they will be looking for revenge.” Sir John Bayley in 2nd have another tough home game against Hanwood, after having one against St Georges last week. Hanwood joint captain Mark Shore says “following our last away trip we face another tough challenge on the road at bayley. We had a few absentees last game but we will be back to full strength tomorrow and hope we come back with more than our last game.”
Leaders Newport will hope to take advantage of those tough games for the teams below them as they host the Bylet. Bylet though are a tougher nut to crack these days, and had some players on the green last night in a Free Press Cup game. St Georges will look to bounce back from their 3 at the Bayley last week as they host Wem USC. Wem have been up and down this season but have still be good on the road so far. Burway have also been up and down and host Ifton. Burway captain Ben Allen is “looking to get another good home result following on from a much needed 10-4 home win against Wem and respectable 4 up at Hanwood, which will hopefully give us a boost going into the second half the season. Would also like to thank Jesse James for the work he has put in but has had to stand down due to a few family reasons.” Ifton are now off bottom spot and will want to keep off there. But the team one point behind them, Chester Road, are at home to Highley. The Road are starting to get better results now but Highley have proved themselves to be good away having won at two other North Shropshire clubs, Wem and Ifton. Meole Brace host Hanmer with both teams enjoying good form and shock wins last week at Highley and over Newport respectively.
