The Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy has now reached the Semi Final stage, with four former winners of the trophy as well as the league taking part in a bid to reach the final on Saturday 28th May.
St Georges v Castlefields
This is a repeat of the 2019 final, as well as in 2007 and 1999, as the Fields look to make it three finals on the bounce. Joint captain Adam Jones knows it is a “tough game against the Dragons for us in the Mayhew Semi Final. We think it will be a close game with us giving St. Georges the respect they deserve. We however need to continue the good team spirit which is contributing to some positive early season results.” Opposition stand in skipper Andy Morgan says “to be playing Castlefields, one of the best sides ever to grace the Premier League in my opinion is always going to be tough. We have a few players missing due to illness and holiday but we are looking forward to it and will give it our best shot.”
Newport v Sir John Bayley
Newport last won this back in 2014 and 2015, while it’s been 20 years since the Bayley did in their only time they have reached the final. Bayley skipper Chris Worthington says “we’ve got a strong side out, as I feel we need to with Newport having played at the Bayley only 2 weeks ago. We want to battle on all fronts this season as I know we maybe haven’t competed in this competition previously.” Newport captain Ayden Smith admits “we are very short of players unfortunately however we hope that the players coming in can take their opportunity. We are very proud to get to the Semi Final for our first season with a new team. Good luck to the Bayley in what hopefully will be a good clash.”
