Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
The pre-playoff takes place tonight at Meole Brace with two teams aiming to have a go at the bottom placed team in the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League a week on Friday. Market Drayton League Champions Adderley have been here before, they took part in 2019 when they ran Chester Road close in the Playoff final, while Horsehay, Mid Shropshire League Champions, are new to this.
Adderley captain Gary Whitehall says “firstly we would like to congratulate Horsehay on winning the Mid Shropshire League. I have to say we know very little about the opposition so any form of tactics on our part will be none existent, which has been pretty normal this season to be honest. We hope for some good quality banter off the green heading in both directions, but unfortunately Jack Hazeldine has lost his voice which is a disaster for us and a blessing for Horsehay! All the best to all involved and we’ll enjoy a drink together after the match.”
Horsehay Secretary Steve Reeves comments “as a team we are stillI in a bit of shock to be in this position really. It’s been a great season, not just for our side but for the club itself. We’ve had pretty much a settled side for the whole of this season which I think has part way contributed to the results we’ve had. A number of sides this season have commented on the way we support each other and that does help too. We don’t don’t know a lot about Adderley to be honest but any team that wins their respected league deserves respect and we look forward to playing them. We’ve been for a practice tonight had a bit of banter so I think that will calm the nerves a little. We also have good memories of playing at Meole it’s where we won the Consolation Cup, albeit some years ago now.”
The first four could be critical to the match, with Adderley captain Gary Whitehall leading the line against former Premier League Averages winner Chris Grocott, while Gareth Jones, brother of former Averages winner Alex Jones, will aim to show his talent on the big stage against Dave Bamford. Horsehay captain Andy Garbett plays former Shropshire County Junior player Tom Hardy, while the Potteries player Ian Atherton takes on Spencer Collins.
The match starts at 7. Entry is £1 with a programme if wanted. There will also be a raffle with three or four prizes on offer, including brandy, wine and chocolates. There may be live scores here.
