The first Champion of Champion qualifier takes place as the Coors Meole Open finals day is tomorrow. 32 players will be chasing the first ticket with the last three time winner Callum Wraight favourite to claim a fourth straight success. He plays a former winner in Andy Hughes first game though, and there are quality matchups everywhere you look. Scott Simpson plays Nathan Dawes first on, with former All England winners Ryan Prosser and Darren Plenderleith clashing. Former Midland Masters winner Lee Brown plays Dave Worthington of North Lancs & Fylde, with Carl Fielding taking on Clay Flattley, both players having won plenty of big open competitions. A former semi finalist in Jamie Bramley plays a former Spring Waterloo winner in Dave Jackson, while Daniel Jones and Ian Howell both impressed during qualifying. The top half is rounded off by former homester Dan Williams, another who impressed when qualifying, and he plays Geraint Booth, a former Welsh Junior and Senior Merit champion.
The bottom half starts with a clash of Castlefields’ team mates in Rich Goddard and Mike Beer, with former Junior Midland Master Winner Reece Farr playing Matt Beeston. Two other youngsters take on each other in Sam Millward and Dan Bodley, with former Isle of Man winner James Wilcox playing former All England champion Tom Vickers. Danny Statham plays Highley team mate Darrell Handley, while over 60 Cliff Massey, vying with Dave Jackson for the £50 best senior prize, plays Pete Grimston. Kiah Roberts didn’t concede 21 in qualifying, but has former Meole player Gary Neal first game, and former Staffordshire Merit winner Paul Evans plays former Shropshire Junior Merit champion Ash Wellings at the bottom of the draw.
Players 1-16 play on the no.1 green, then the no.2 green in the 2nd round. Players 17-32 are on the no.2 green first game then the no.2 green.
