Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
The 2023 Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy starts tonight as the holders Castlefields play Highley, looking to make it a record 10th success in this competition. The team they beat in the final, Sir John Bayley, have got a tough tie at Hanwood, while there is a North Shropshire derby between Chester Road and Adderley. However, the Chester Road green has been declared unfit to play on, so all 12 games will be played at Adderley to ensure the game takes place and does not disrupt the competition. Another North Shropshire team, Hanmer, face a much longer trip down the A49 to play Burway. Wrockwardine Wood’s Sam Millward will be facing his former club in Bylet, while Meole Brace take on Ifton. There are two non-premier teams in the competition, as Newport, who had to withdraw from the league in February, play St Georges, and Mid Shropshire League Champions Horsehay, play their first ever game in the competition against Wem USC.
