Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Four away wins and three big home wins
There were four away wins in week 5 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. The biggest win was St George’s’ 13-3 at Wem USC to delight captain Tony Rhodes. “Super win so really pleased. Green is always a challenge so to come away with 13 points was a real plus.” Beat winner for them was Clay Flattley 7, while for Wem it was Ian Metcalfe and Sarah Weaver who both won 8. Castlefields won 12-4 at Adderley with Rich Goddard best winner 5. Captain Adie Rowe said “on a whole we were happy with our result. We got 6 there in the cup but that would have been very difficult to follow as they have some good players who can hold their own in this league.” Best for the home side was Ian Howell 5. Sir John Bayley also won 12-4 at Burway. Skipper Dave Lloyd commented “we went to Burway seeking our first away win of the season after narrowly dipping out the week previous. Solid team performance getting 8 winners and we will hopefully carry it on into next week’s game. Wish Burway all the best for the rest of the season” Chris Worthington was their best winner 11, with Kiah Roberts, Adam Dovey and Kevin Dovey all being best winner for the Ludlow side 14. Hanwood completed the quad of away wins when winning 11-5 at Chester Road. Skipper Rich Lawson said it was “a really good win for us, always nice to get an away win as those 4 extra points make such a big difference. A special mention for our 2 new lads, Jon Mansell who from 18-9 down ran out and Shaun Bould who was impressive winning to 5 (to be best winner). It looked like it would be a comfortable win but Martin Lloyd played exceptional (to be best winner 3) to put the game in the balance. Simon Lane though saw us over the line producing some quality pressure bowls when needed. I’m really pleased at the way the whole team battled and hopefully this gives us some momentum ahead of next week’s game.”
Wrockwardine Wood continued their solid defence with an 11-3 win over Hanmer. Best winner was Martin Williams 4, with Hanmer’s best being Graham Bennett 10. Meole Brace had a great 12-2 home win over the Bylet. Doug Edwards was best winner 4 for Meole and Matt Ealey was best for the Bylet 10. League leaders Ifton kept their good lead at the top of the table with a 10-4 win over Highley. Best winner for them was Leighton Roberts 3, while captain Reece Farr was best for the away side, 11.
Ifton are four points clear of Castlefields and Wrockwardine Wood at the top, with Bylet four behind Wem USC but with a game in hand. Mike Beer leads Rich Lawson and Sam Millward on 5 wins at the top of the League Averages.
