Bottom two clash, Two of the Top Three Play, Ifton aim to bounce back
The bottom two of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League clash in a key game already this season. Burway host bottom placed Wem USC with both teams looking for a positive result to kick on from. Burway haven’t won a game yet this season, but have been so close at home on so many occasions. Burway captain Jesse James says “we need to start winning our home games now starting with Friday’s game. We’d like to put as many points between ourselves and Wem as possible.” Opposition skipper George Williams says “we travel to Burway on Friday along with all the bank holiday traffic hoping for at least a similar points haul to our away trip at Highley. But we know it will be tough given Burway still have a core of very good bowlers despite losing a few from last season. Our home form hasn’t been the best so hopefully we can grab some valuable points to kick start our season.” Bylet are just above them but have a tough home game against Ifton, the only team in the top 6 last season to win there in the last game of the season. Ifton narrowly lost at home to Castlefields last week and will want an instant response to that, while the Bylet won at Wem and will want to back that up.
Two of the top three meet as Sir John Bayley host Wrockwardine Wood. The Wrockites won there at the end of last season but this is a much different Bayley side. Bayley skipper Dave Lloyd says it “should be a good night for bowls this Friday. You know what you get with Wrockwardine, a very good side now, loud and they try to be intimidating. So playing them is never easy. We’re hoping for a good home win and to hopefully receive another good Google review from Wrockwardine players about our club.” Castlefields will look to take advantage as they host Highley, although the visitors come off three straight home wins and will be wanting to keep that momentum going. St Georges just dipped out at Highley last week and will be looking for something similar when they travel to Hanmer this week. But Hanmer will be buoyed by that incredible 14-2 win at Adderley last week. Chester Road have struggled at home so far this season and entertain Meole Brace who will be on a high after beating Hanwood 13-1 last week. Hanwood and Adderley will be both looking for a reaction when they meat at the Cock Inn after those results last Friday.
