Fields hit back, Bylet get best home win, Meole back to form
Castlefields hit back in week 14 after a few poor weeks to win 12-4 at Hanwood in week 14 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Adie Rowe said “a week in bowls can change quickly, we totally turned it around from Friday. I thought we played Hanwood really well as a team, the green was flying and we got a good start and carried it through. Our support was Castlefields of old, top draw!” Mike Beer was best winner 9 for them, with Jon Mansell best for the home side 16. The win meant they gained two points on leaders Sir John Bayley who beat Highley 10-4. Best winner was Scott Simpson 7 with Dave East best for the visitors 5. Wrockwardine Wood also gained a point on the Bayley with a 11-3 win over Adderley, Sam Millward leading the way 21-5. Jamie Brookes was best winner 8 for the away side.
Bylet got their best home win of the season with an 11-3 victory over Hanmer. Spokeswoman Cheryl Caswell said “we needed to get a decent result after a disappointing but expected few weeks on the road and I’m pleased we did. Hanmer started really well early doors, Lee Peate was superb (to be best winner 10) and Jacob Jones played very well against Scott. But as a team I thought we thoroughly deserved the result. All credit to Hanmer, they are a nice bunch of lads and we wish them well for the rest of the season.” Nick Lewis was Bylet’s best winner 4. Meole Brace earned a good 12-2 win over Wem USC. Skipper Nick Davies said “I was very pleased with last nights result and performance by the Team. We had a good start with 4 winners on the front. But Wem hit back with 2 winners in the middle – both Colin Smith and Simon Lewis (best winner 14) with stand out performances. Our back four were solid to give us a 12-2 victory. Good luck to Wem for the rest of the season.” Meole’s best winner was Doug Edwards 6. St Georges beat Burway 10-4 with Mike Wainwright best winner 4, and Kiah Roberts best winner for the Ludlow side 12.
The Bayley are 6 ahead of Castlefields, and another two ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Wem USC are 11 behind Adderley, who are two adrift of Bylet. Steve Broome leads 5 other players at the top of the Averages, with Alex Jones streak of 11 the target for the Most Consecutive Wins award.
