Wem USC stun Adders, Bylet come back against Burway, Dragons roar at Wrockites
Wem USC stunned Adderley 11-5 in week 16 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League to put themselves back in the race to avoid bottom spot. Captain George Williams said “We went to Adderley knowing a good performance was needed. I’m sure not many would have got us scoring more than 5. The belief and togetherness the team have is going to be important for the rest of the season. Hopefully my team can continue to show the same grit and determination for the rest of the season!” Colin Smith was their best winner 9, while for Adders it was Matty Worden 4. Bylet went one better as they won 12-4 at Burway, scoring the most points away they’ve ever done in this league. Spokeswoman Cheryl Caswell said “we are delighted to get the win and we managed to sneak in all the close games which looked like they were going to go in Burway’s favour, I’m sure they will be disappointed. I think we thoroughly deserved to clinch the aggregate and pleased with how we battled throughout.” Captain Scott Harries was best winner 8 with Kiah Roberts best for the hosts 13.
St Georges stunned the Champions Wrockwardine Wood 10-6 to hand them their first home loss since 2021. Skipper Tony Rhodes said “you always need a positive front four down there and we got it, not being 4-0 down but in the game. Young Joe Killen was on it against Jamie King (best winner 7) and set the tone. After that we kept picking up points and Roy Bradburn brought us home at the end to take the points. Tremendous respect between the sides and with that will always come competitiveness. We loathe giving anything away to them at our place, same applies down there. It’s a local derby, what more can I say.” Josh Cotton was best winner for the Champs 3. Sir John Bayley took advantage with a 10-4 victory over their other rivals Castlefields. Alex Jones led the way 21-5 with Wayne Rogers doing the same for the Fields 10. Hanwood had another fine win, this time 12-2 over Hanmer. Rich Addison was best winner 4 while Lee Peate was best for the visitors 15. Meole Brace had a good 10-4 win over Ifton with Doug Edwards best winner 4 and Ian Jones best for the Miners 15. Chester Road also won 10-4 over Highley as Chris Nicholson led the way 7, and John Heath leading the way for the away side 6.
Sir John Bayley are 7 ahead of Castlefields and another 6 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Wem USC have leapfrogged Adderley by 2 points at the bottom with Burway 14 ahead of them. Alex Jones is ahead on 14 wins now, and still leading the Most Consecutive Wins on 11.
