Greg Smith of Wrockwardine Wood beat Mike Beer from Castlefields in the Midland Masters Final 21-17. Mike took an early lead of 8-4 before Greg took control on longer marks to lead 19-12. Mike got back to 19-17 before Greg got out. Greg had beaten Rich Lawson of Hanwood in the Semi Final 18, the closest anyone got to him all day, Rich lying two good bowls on at 18 across before Greg drew them. Mike had defeated Adam Bell 12 after leading 19-6 in his Semi Final. Greg had beaten Adam Stubbs 11, Pete Farmer of St Georges 7, after Pete beat Matt Allen 17 in his first game, Highley’s Reece Farr 16, Reece had beaten Paul Williams of Castlefields 16 and Ben Lynch 15 earlier, and Kevin Neal 10. Mike got past Sir John Bayley’s Paul Evans 12, Michael Warrington 14, Bill Kinchin 17 and Aaron Tapper of Sir John Bayley 16. Aaron had defeated Ian Brown 18, Tim Jordan of Wem USC 6 and Rachel Bennett 13. Rich had overcome Pete Cookson 14, Mark Gamsby 13, Darrell Handley of Highley 14 and Tom Boyd 17. Darrell had beaten Greg Tatem 3 and Scott Harries of the Bylet 9, Scott having defeated Andy Grocock 5 first game. Joe Killen of St Georges got to the last 16 having got past Shane Day 20 and team mate Cody Everitt 19, Cody beating Andrew Owen 19 first round. Stu Gittings of Highley beat Phil Clapham 14 before losing to Adam Bell 9. Clay Flattley from St Georges got past Mark Archer 8 and Liam Dennis 7 but lost to Tom Boyd 8 in the last 16. Bylet’s Gary Cooper defeated Steve Pratt 17 first round, however lost to Gary Owen 9 in the second, while Sir John Bayley’s Kevin Hocknull defeated Keith Hatzer 8 before losing to Bill Kinchin 15.
