Bayley earn massive win, Bottom two winless again at home, Wrockites continue form
Sir John Bayley earned a massive win in week 24 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League to put themselves in a strong position to win the league. Vice-captain Tom Roden said “obviously, we’re over the moon with Friday’s result. We knew a loss would more than likely end our challenge for the league title and Ifton away is one of the most difficult fixtures of the season. The front 4 started well, going 3-1 and 4 shots up. Unfortunately the middle 4 took a turn for the worse. Ifton battled back strongly to level up the game 4-4 and we now trailed by 22 shots. However, the Bayley back 4 refused to give up hope and we managed to win all 4 games, pulling back 23 shots to win by 1. All-in-all it was probably the most important result of our season.” Best winner was captain Dave Lloyd 8, while Owen Jackson was best for the home side 3. They are now 8 points ahead of Castlefields at the top of the table after they beat Hanmer 10-4, fighting back from being 4-4 and down on aggregate. Best winner was Wayne Rogers 8, while Jack Hewitt and Robin Bennett were best for the visitors 9. The Champions Wrockwardine Wood continued their good form with a 10-6 win at Meole Brace. Skipper Rob Jones said it was an “excellent win against a good Meole side, once again it should have been a bigger win for us but happy to keep the run of form going.” Best winners for them were Sam Millward, Dan Taylor and Scott Moseley all 11, while Julian Cooke was best for the home side 12.
The bottom two were winless again this week as Adderley drew with Burway and Wem USC lost at home to Chester Road. Adderley had 4 winners at home and drew with Connor Whitehall best winner 1. Burway skipper Jesse James said “another win on the road for us on a good home green. The focus is on Wednesday now and hopefully we can get a home to back it up.” Best winner for them was Ben Allen 9. Chester Road won 11-5 at Wem USC by 7 chalks. Captain Gary Beff said “it was nice of us to be on a familiar green after a run of poor results. After a slow start the game started to turn in our favour. Very pleased with the final result but probably a bit harsh on Wem who I’m sure will feel they deserved a little more!” Best winner for them was Liam Jones 9 with Gareth Davies best for the home side 14. Highley had a good 10-4 home win over Hanwood with Bruno Heath best winner 6 and Simon Lane best for the visitors 7. Bylet ran St Georges close as they just lost by 11 chalks in a 10-4 loss. Captain Scott Harries led the way 8 with Pete Farmer best for the Dragons 10.
Sir John Bayley lead Castlefields by 8, while Wem USC and Adderley are still level at the bottom. Alex Jones is now two wins ahead at the top of the League Averages with two games left, having already won the Most Consecutive Wins award.
