Bylet earn super seven, Wrockties continue form, Burway hammer Highley, Adderley win away
Bylet earned a super seven winners at Hanmer in week 4 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Cheryl Caswell said “it was a great result for us and despite Hanmer missing a few players we fought hard and really deserved our seven winners and at one point looked on for an away win. However I’ve got to give credit to Hanmer, they were very gracious on the night and their back four played very well to ensure they won the aggregate.” Opposition skipper Ieuan Pugh replied “the Byley played well and fully deserved to win, we were very lucky to get a draw in the end! We wish them luck for the season.” Best winner for Bylet was Grant Cooper 11 while for Hanmer it was Mike Gilpin 5. Wrockwardine Wood continued their good form with a 11-5 win at Meole Brace. Captain Rob Jones said it was “a tightly contested game that went to the wire, with Josh Cotton getting the vital chalks to get us home at the back. Team are playing well and after four games we are more than happy with the points we have on the board so far.” Best winner was Aaron King 8 with Will Childs best for the hosts 7.
Sir John Bayley are the only unbeaten team in the league after beating the previously unbeaten St Georges 11-3. Scott Harries was best winner 5 and former Bayley man Gordon Hawkins best winner for the Dragons 16. Ifton also won 11-3 against Hanwood with Owen Jackson best winner 6 and Rich Lawson best winner for the away side 17. Burway enjoyed the biggest win of the night with a 12-2 victory over Highley. Skipper Adam Dovey says it was a “really good performance from 1 to 12 on Friday to get a good home win. The front four did well to get us off to a good start being 3-1 up after being down in 3 of those games early. Really happy to get 4 games in the middle with Highley going strong there and another solid performance in the back only dropping one game. Credit to Highley for a good night and staying after for a drink.” Best winner was Richard Lane 8 with Frank Leek best for Highley 14. Adderley earned their first away win of the season at Wem USC 9-7. Captain Gary Whitehall said “a pleasing away win for us to put a few points on the board with some difficult games coming up. An unusually high scoring match in which the result could have been pretty much anything, thankfully we just kept our noses in front, pick of the games would be Ade and Sarah, Ade played exceptional (to be best winner 8) and Sarah played way better than the score suggested. A good night with Wem as always.” Colin Smith was best winner 16 for the home side. Horsehay are still looking for their first win but did get 5 winners at home to Castlefields. Olly Harris was their best winner 9 and for the Fields it was Adam Jones 11.
After four games the Bayley lead by 2 points to Castlefields, who are another two ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Horsehay are two behind three times in Highley, Hanwood and the Bylet. Callum Wraight leads 12 other players on 4 wins out of 4.
