Dragons & Wrockites impress away, Bayley edge out Fields, Horsehay get first win
St Georges and Wrockwardine Wood impressed away from home in week 6 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier. St Georges won at Adderley 12-4 in a complete reversal of their 11-3 loss there last season. Captain Josh Bradburn said it was a “great away win from the team, over the moon with the result! We had some close games that we managed to get over the line, Adderley are a difficult team to play as they have some top players so really pleased get the points.” Best winner was Keith Wall 6 with Harry Wilson best for the Adders 13. Wrockwardine Wood also reversed their defeat at Burway last season to win 11-5 there. Skipper Rob Jones was “delighted with an away win at a green that is never easy to win at. The team were superb and at it from the off with Josh Cotton (best winner 6) and Liam Stevens proving big wins at the front for us to build on. We are playing well and staying in touch.” Best winner for the Ludlow side was Nick Lewis 5.
Leaders Sir John Bayley beat Castlefields 8-6 to stay top of the table. Fields skipper Steve Peach said it was a “superb effort from the lads, a little bit unfortunate to find ourselves 4-0 down off the front four with two 21-20 losers. But some real good stuff from then on got us a fantastic 6 winners and definitely well deserved.” Best winner for them was Andrew Judson 12 with Dan Taylor best winner for the Bayley 6. Wem USC got their best win of the season with a 11-3 win over Highley. Colin Smith was best winner 4 while Dave East was best for the away side 12. Ifton won by the same score against Hanmer to continue their good run. Best winner was Owen Jackson again 7 while the returning Joey Williams was best for the visitors 9. Meole Brace won their derby with Hanwood 10-4 with three 21-9 winners as their best by Mark Thomas, Jen Rogers and Andy Wigginton. For the away side it was Darren Wellings best winner 8. Horsehay earned their first win ever in this league with a 9-5 success over the Bylet. Spokesman Steve Reeves admits it is “safe to say we were delighted to get our first win in the league against the Bylet, we knew it was going to be tough as most of them are familiar with our green. The green is in top condition at the moment and we knew we had that to our advantage. As expected there was some really close games that could have gone either way and it was 4-4 going into the back four and then we were 5-4 down so big credit to our back 3 for digging in and getting us over the line. Hopefully our first win will give us even more confidence to enable us to kick on again.” Best winner for the Hoss was Gareth Jones 7 and for the Bylet it was Matt Ealey 9.
Sir John Bayley lead by 2 to Wrockwardine Wood and by another 2 to St Georges. Hanwood are 5 behind Bylet who are another two behind Highley. There are three players now who have won 6 out of 6; Callum Wraight, Dan Taylor and Liam Stevens.
