Week 12 Review

Hanwood continue their good form, Meole back to winning ways, Hanmer earn super six

Hanwood continued their good form with a 13-1 win over the Bylet in week 12 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Simon Lane said “it was a great result for us, a game that I thought had potential to be a banana skin for us based on some of their other away results. Some great performances in some close games got us an impressive win. The overall result does Bylet a bit of a disservice as a lot of their team bowled the green well.” Best winner was Mark Shore who won 3, with Bylet’s winner being Connor Warr 11. Meole Brace bounced back to form with a 11-3 victory over Horsehay. Skipper Nick Davies said “it has been a difficult month which has seen us slip down the table after tough games against the top 3. Friday was a welcome return to home advantage against a team that are still finding their feet in the Premier League but were buoyed by a home win the previous week. Fortunately we got off to a great start with 4 winners on the front. We lost 2 close games in the middle but finished with a solid home win – which I hope will give us confidence going into our County Cup quarter final against the cup holders on Wednesday. All the best to Horsehay for the rest of the season.”

Sir John Bayley went clear at the top after winning 11-5 at Adderley. Alex Jones was best winner 10 with Jack Hazeldine best for the home team 8. St George’s had a good 10-4 win over Ifton from 3-1 down. Nige Evans was best winner 7 with Leighton Roberts the best for Ifton 14. Hanmer got a good 6 winners at Highley to recapture the form of last season. Captain Ieuan Pugh said it was a “good night of bowls against Highley on Friday! We went there missing a few but the lads put in a good performance to get a good 6! We were probably unlucky not to win after being 3-1 up and 5-3 up but the back 4 for Highley played very well! Hopefully we can keep up the good form with 2 tough games against St Georges coming up!” Best winner for them was Mike Gilpin 10 with Danny Statham and Dave East being best for the home side by the same score. Wem USC defeated Burway 10-4 as Gareth Davies was best winner 3 and Adam Dovey 12 for the visitors.

Sir John Bayley are 11 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood and another point clear of Castlefields. Bylet are two points behind Horsehay but have a game in hand. Adderley are another 13 clear of them. Stuart Rutter now leads Callum Wraight and Rich Lawson at the top of the League Averages on 11 wins, Callum still clear on 11 consecutive wins.
