Fields close gap, Wem shock Wrockties, Burway edge past Dragons
Castlefields have closed the gap on the top of the table in week 17 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Steve Peach says “it was a fantastic result at a really tough place to go, some really good performances from our lads non more so than Rich Goddard who was superb. We’ve picked up 26 points in our last two away games, so can’t do anymore than we’re doing and will continue to try and catch SJB. The lads were superb on Friday after some awful news this week of the sad passing of a club legend Steve “Hooky” Walker and we would like to thank Hanmer as a club for paying their respects with us it was much appreciated.” Best winner for them was Adam Jones 10, with Alan Faulkner best for the home side 15. Sir John Bayley though did win 12-2 over Hanwood to keep their good form going. Scott Simpson was best winner 1 with the returning Mark Shore best for the away side 13. Wrockwardine Wood though slipped up, losing 9-5 at Wem USC, despite Sally King being best winner 6. Ian Metcalfe was best 21-4 for the home side.
Burway edged past St Georges by 10 shots winning 9-5. Best winner was Paul Williams 11 for them while Pete Farmer was best for the visitors 7. It was even closer at Horsehay where they beat Highley 8-6 and by 7 chalks. Steve Reeves was best winner 8 for them while Jamie Taylor was best for the Miners 21-1. Bylet only got two winners at Ifton led by Joe Dicken’s 14 win. The home side’s best was Ian Jones 5. Adderley will be happy with 5 winners at Meole Brace. Skipper Gary Whitehall says it was “an enjoyable night as always at Meole Brace and another solid away result for us on an immaculate playing surface.” Best winner for them was ex Meole Chris Stretch 5, with Andy Wigginton best for the home side 3.
Sir John Bayley are 14 points ahead of Castlefields and another 5 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Bylet and Horsehay are level on points a the bottom, with Adderley 22 ahead of the pair. Callum Wraight leads the League Averages on 15 wins.
