Pre-Play Off Report

Woore beat Shifnal by 41 tonight to advance to the Play Off final on Friday 4th October against Horsehay at Bicton at 7 p.m.

It was a comfortable night for Woore after a good start in the first four, Gary Beff raced 18-0 up before winning 1, while Andy Moss also won 9. But Shifnal did hit back, Darrell Handley overcoming a slow start against Dan Hand to win 16, and Alison Cotton won 20 in a 34 end marathon. This meant Woore led by 26.

They further extended their lead when Martin Lloyd from 9-8 up won 9 in the corners, and Steve Rogers from 14-12 down ran out. Tim Benton though did win 15 for Shifnal, running out from 15-14 down, and Dan Wilson got back to 19 against Andy Smith after being 18-12 down. But it meant that Woore led by 41 going into the back four.

Once Derek Wright had come off winning 15 from being 9-8 down the game was won for Woore. But Paul Reeves won 17 for Shifnal and Rob Steventon won 11 from 16-2 up. Jan Wakefield though won 13 last on to give Woore the win by 41.

Well done to Woore tonight and commiserations to Shifnal. They have had an excellent season though winning the Mid Shropshire League and Harris Shield.

Woore go on to play Horsehay on Friday at Bicton at 7 p.m. The draw will be released at 10 p.m. later today.
