Good luck to Castlefields in the BCGBA World Club Championships after qualifying last Sunday. They beat Attleborough by 43 first game, Callum Wraight the best of three single figure winners 21-5, and then Pudsey by 36, Adam Jones 21-2 and Mike Beer 21-7 the two single figure winners in that game. They have drawn Crossgates in the final tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Spen Victoria in Yorkshire, who will be one of the favourites to win it on home turf. Joint captain Jon Palmer says “we always look forward to the big national competitions, and hope to represent Shropshire to the best of our ability. We have a tough draw in the competition but that is to be expected at these later stages. Luckily, there are no mixed doubles competitions in Shrewsbury on Sunday, which leaves us with a full squad to pick from!”
Our other representative last Sunday, Sir John Bayley, lost to Thongsbridge first game by 20 with an understrength team, Rob Burroughs being the best of three winners 21-8.
