Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Castlefields have won the Super Cup to become the first Shropshire club to do so since it came back in 2014 after beating George & Dragon by 7 in a close final.
They trailed by 12 after the front four despite Rich Goddard winning 25 from only 19-18 up and Jon Palmer winning 26 after being 22 across. Tom Palmer then won 23 after being only 18-16 up, and then Callum Wraight won 25 from 19-7 ahead. This left Castlefields 2 up with Ash Wellings 21-10 up and Adie Rowe 19-16 up. George & Dragon hit back though with Ash pegged back to 23-20 and Adie to 27-26. Ash got the jack back and went 30-21 up and with Adie also going 30-29 up it meant the Fields only needed one to win. Ash duly got the one to win the match and his game 23, while Adie lost out 30 to give Fields the win by 7.
In the Semi Finals Castlefields came back from 21 down off 3 to beat the Greville by 15. Callum Wraight from 12-10 down won 17 to add to Rhys Marshall’s great win against Darren Plenderleith 25. Adie Rowe won 24 from 23-22 up to put them 5 up with Wayne Rogers 12-6 up left on the green needing to get 27 for them to progress. He was pulled back to 25-21 but got the two he needed.
The other Semi Final saw the George & Dragon also come back from being behind after trailing by 17 after three games off with Jack Dyson winning 8 for Thongsbridge. But they hit back with Jack Hargreaves winning 20, Chris Heyes winning 8 from 20-1 up, Charlie Roberts winning 17 and Chris Haynes winning 13 after going 24-8 ahead to win them the game. Andy Sorsby won 19 last on for Thongsbridge which meant George & Dragon won by 37.
Well done to Castlefields today on their success and fourth trophy so far this season.
