Two rivals meet, Bayley look for away win, Bottom two away
The Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League is back tonight in week 1 with the Champions Castlefields facing a tough trip to Wrockwardine Wood. Wrockwardine have made a few signings this season as they look to return to the top 3. Captain Liam Stevens said “I think we are all looking forward to tonight after the winter. Mecca’s surface is in glorious condition, much like the last few years. We’ve not got much time for us to ease into the season, however – an immediate test ahead tonight from a top class side followed by another next week at SJB. Our aim is to navigate this tricky double without a big hiccup, so we have a decent platform to build from.” The Fields got 6 winners here last season and would love a repeat with their improved squad. Sir John Bayley, runners-up last season, are on the road too as they travel to Hanwood. Hanwood will be looking to return to the top 6 this season with an improved side. Skipper Simon Lane says “Hanwood lads are looking forward to the season getting underway. Tough opener for us against one of the league favourites in SJB and they always play well at our place. The aim is to improve on last years result and enjoy the night on and off the green.”
After a hard winter the Bylet will be grateful of making the trip to Adderley tonight. Adderley will be wanting to make a good start under new leadership in this league. Horsehay are on the road to as they go to Meole Brace who have lost a couple of players over the winter and have a new captain too. Burway host Ifton with both having had their best ever seasons last year and will try and improve on those with both sides having made new signings. Hanmer make one of their longest trips of the season to Highley, with both sides having an eye on a top half finish. St Georges could be facing their toughest season but will feel they can start with a good home win over Wem USC, who have lost a couple of players taking a year out.
