In-form top four all meet, Dragons look to continue form, Highley look to reclaim form
The top four all meet in week 5 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. The league leaders host second place Castlefields while fourth place Wrockwardine Wood take on third place Ifton at home. Bayley joint captain Scott Simpson says “tonight we welcome Castlefields to Haygate Road and we fully expect as we always do against Castlefields an extremely competitive match. It’s still early days in the season but we know having had two very tight battles in the league over the last two years that this is a big game against a team who are full of quality, play our green well and have also had some midweek practice on the green so they will definitely be coming here looking to pick up a win so we know it’s going to be a battle. We look forward to the game which should hopefully have a great atmosphere generated and will also be looking to win the game to keep us in front of them in the standings.” Fields skipper Steve Peach says “another stern away test for the boys tonight and they won’t come much tougher than SJB away, but we will be bang up for the challenge and hopefully pick up a few useful away points.” Wrockwardine Wood captain Liam Stevens is “really looking forward to tomorrow night. There’s not been much to split the two sides since we traded county cups in 2021 and 2022. Ifton look like a quality outfit this year and and we are expecting to need to be at the top of our game. Looking like a lovely evening too so should get a decent crowd.” Ifton skipper Dickie Jones says it is a “tough place to go and I don’t think we’ve ever won there, but we enjoy the challenge and hopefully put in a decent performance.”
St Georges will look to continue their good form as they host Hanwood, who come off a good result away at Adderley last week. Bylet are also in decent form but they host Wem USC who have won there the last two years. Down the road at Highley two teams looking to bounce back meet as the winless Horsehay travel to meet a team that only scored 4 points in their last two games. Meole Brace will be looking to bounce back from their last home game, a loss at home to Ifton, as they welcome Adderley, who won their last away game at Horsehay. Burway will also look to regain their form as they host Hanmer, who will also look for a better result than their opening away game at Wrockwardine Wood.
