Shrewsbury Derby, Hoss & Wem face tough tests
There is a Shrewsbury derby in week 6 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Hanwood take on Meole Brace with local bragging rights at stake. Hanwood captain Simon Lane says it is “always a close game against our closest rivals. We will be hoping to come out on top of what will no doubt be another tight contest.” Meole Brace skipper Chris Jones says “we go once again to our closest distance rivals on what is expected to be a warm night both off and on a notoriously tricky green in the warmer weather. We are looking to build on a fantastic previous result but we expect a tough challenge ahead.” Horsehay and Wem USC face very tough tests as they host Wrockwardine Wood and Sir John Bayley respectively. Horsehay spokesman Steve Reeves says “it’s another tough one for us tonight with Wrockwardine coming to the Hoss. They will be full of confidence after their good start to the league season, we however aren’t where we want to be at this early stage so we will be looking for any sort of points and not making it easy for them.” Horsehay are the only winless team, but Wrockwardine won there 14-2 last season and will be looking for a similar result. Wem, after winning first game at St Georges, haven’t won since, and it won’t come any easier against league leaders Sir John Bayley, who will be wanting to keep their lead at the top at least. Castlefields and Ifton will be looking to keep in reach of the top two by having good home wins against Burway and St Georges respectively. But both away teams have had good starts to the season and will be looking to continue their good run of results. Highley, coming off a good home win last week, travel to Adderley looking to bounce back from 2 winners at Meole Brace last Friday. Hanmer have had a solid start and will play a Bylet side who got 7 winners at their green last season, so both teams will be looking for a good points haul.
