Old rivals meet, Meole aim to halt run, big North Shropshire Clash
Old rivals meet in week 13 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as St Georges host Castlefields. There is plenty of history between the two sides, but this year sees Castlefields start as heavy favourites to beat their hosts given their respective league form. The Fields have won their last 7, while St Georges haven’t won on the green in four. The Fields know they need to keep in touch with Sir John Bayley who have gone top once again as a result of their 18 match winning streak. They travel to a Meole Brace side reeling from losing at home to Wem USC on Friday. Meole captain Chris Jones is “looking forward to welcoming another very strong team throughout tonight and the challenge of trying to improve recent home results.” Wem themselves make another trip to Shrewsbury, this time to Hanwood. Captain Andy Marshall says “that win at Meole Brace gives us confidence going into a very difficult double header with Hanwood.” Hanwood also come into the game off a good home win over Hanmer, who travel to North Shropshire rivals Adderley, both teams only above bottom placed Horsehay, knowing that gaining more points than their rivals in this double header could be vital. Horsehay have a tough game themselves at home to Ifton, who won there last season 13-3, but do struggle with a team on a Wednesday, they lost 10-4 to Adderley on a Wednesday last season. Wrockwardine Wood will be looking for a good home win over the Bylet, but the Bylet will be buoyed by winning on the green at St Georges. Highley and Burway have had a great first half of the season, and the two meet in Highley, looking to consolidate their current top six placing, Burway currently being two points above their hosts.
