Week 17 Review

Fields extend lead, Wrockites reignite, Adders win well

Castlefields extended their lead by a point at the top of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League in week 17. They beat Highley 13-1 while Sir John Bayley beat Bylet 12-2. Their best winner was Tom Palmer 4 with John Heath Highley’s winner 20. The Bayley’s best was Scott Simpson 3 with Bylet’s being Jamie Wyer 17. Wrockwardine Wood returned to form with a 13-3 win at Hanmer. Captain Liam Stevens says “we haven’t travelled too well to Hanmer in recent years so it was good to land an excellent result there. The green weight difference was probably more extreme than usual with the downhill being brown – but many of the lads navigated it well. Good luck to Hanmer for the rest of the year.” Best winner for them was Steve Broome and Sam Millward 11, with Anthony Harper best for Hanmer by the same score. Ifton did keep the pressure on though with a 11-3 win over Meole Brace. Skipper Dickie Jones was “happy with an 11-3 win as it keeps our good run going. Meole played well and can count themselves unlucky not to have won more games.” Owen Jackson was their best winner 7, with Julian Cooke best for Meole 10.

Adderley had a great 11-3 win over St Georges. Captain Connor Whitehall says it was “a good home result for us on Friday. Quite a few close games that could have gone either way on the night, but it’s the result we needed after a poor result last week.” Best for them was Darren Palin 11, with Joe Killen best for the Dragons 10. Horsehay won 9-5 versus Hanwood to close the gap at the bottom of the table. Gareth Jones was best winner 5 with Craig Ashley best for the visitors 4. Wem USC kept up their good form with a 10-4 win over Burway. Sarah Weaver was best winner 7 and Richard Lane best for the away side 13.

Castlefields are 5 ahead of Sir John Bayley, and another 21 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Horsehay are 8 behind Hanmer and another 8 adrift of Bylet. Scott Simpson leads Owen Jackson and Jon Palmer on 16 wins.
