Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Fields create history, Bayley still fighting, Horsehay bottom
Castlefields created history in week 25 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League with a 16-0 away win at Hanwood. This is the first time 16 points has ever been scored in the league, and follows Meole Brace in the only other away whitewash the league has ever seen. Captain Steve Peach says it was “a faultless away performance. We were a bit fortunate as Hanwood were missing a couple of key players but the lads were superb, once Andrew Judson and Wayne Rogers won the two close games in the front we never really looked back. To get the first ever clean sweep away from home to score 16 is something special and is a massive step to us winning the league again for a second year running something myself and Jon Palmer are very proud of, well done you fielders!” Best winner was Michael Beer 7. 2nd placed Sir John Bayley had a good result themselves with a 14-2 victory at Horsehay, to keep the title race alive and mean Horsehay will finish bottom of the league. Best winner was Stuart Rutter 4 with Steve Reeves best for the home side 12.
Highley took advantage of Hanwood’s home loss to close the gap on them in 5th with a 10-4 win over Bylet. Dave Scriven was their best winner 8 and Pauline Wilson best winner for the Bylet 11. Burway gained slightly but would have wanted more than 3 winners at Meole Brace. Andy Wigginton was best winner for Meole 7 and Kiah Roberts best for the Ludlow side 4. Meole moved above Wem USC into 8th after they got 5 winners at Adderley, losing by just 2 chalks. Simon Lewis was their best 21-2, while Darren Palin was best for the Adders 8. St Georges will be happy with a 9-5 victory over their neighbours Wrockwardine Wood. Tony Rhodes was their best 21-1 with Rob Roden best for the Wrockites 12. Ifton defeated Hanmer 11-3, led by captain Dickie Jones’ 5 win. Mel Jenkins was best for Hanmer 13.
Castlefields are 12 ahead of Sir John Bayley, with Horsehay now bottom as they are 20 behind Hanmer. Scott Simpson has won the League Averages, and 5 players share the Most Consecutive Wins award with 11 straight wins.
