Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Two games take place in Telford this Wednesday in the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League. Champions Newport will look to extend their one point advantage as they travel to Sir John Bayley. They won there last year 9-5 but know they will have a hard game against a Bayley side who are unbeaten at home this season. Home captain Tom Roden knows that “it is our toughest home game of the season and we’ll have to play better than we have all season most likely just to win the match. Any win against the best team in the county will be a bonus.”
The other game of the night takes place at Hadley USC where they take on Castlefields, their first game since the 19th June. Castlefields have not won at Hadley since their return in the Premier League, getting 5 and 4 winners there. But home vice-captain Rob Burroughs knows “those results will be tough to repeat as Castlefields are a much improved team this season despite them underachieving in the league. They played our green well on Monday in the Summit League with 6 winners out of the 8 so we know that we will have to play well to get a good result out of the game, especially with the weather not helping us. But it’s a different night with different players so we know that bowls is a strange game and that we are capable of getting a much different result.” Castlefields have started to get on a roll with their last two home wins, only dropping 3 games in the process and will be eyeing to move up the table and show the potential they have in their team.
Both teams will be eyeing up third place in the league, with the Bayley only 6 behind and Castlefields 8, which will move them up to where most people thought they would be at the start of the season.
