Team Review 2016: Hanwood

Team: Hanwood

2016 Captain: Mark Shore, Ash Wellings & Mark Parsons

2016 Aim: Our main aim this season is to avoid playing on the first Friday in October!! It’s taken us time to get back and we aim to enjoy the experience and challenge of going to new greens and playing the best players in the county. We would like a strong cup run and a league finish in mid table. We are looking forward to playing host to all at The Cock.

Comments:

Hanwood enjoyed an excellent season back in the league finishing in 5th place and winning the most improved team award. It couldn’t have started much worse though, they got hammered by 118 at Ifton without a winner. But slowly and surely they picked themselves up and got better as the season got on. A 13-1 home win over Chester Road was followed by a narrow home loss in the rain against rivals Meole Brace but from that point they were impeccable at home. They finished with the best home record in the league, helped by a whitewash over Bylet and two 13-1s over Hadley USC and Wrockwardine Wood. They improved away too, culminating in a 10-4 win at the Bylet, and only scored less than 4 winners away in just four games. A 11-3 home win over Wem USC last game meant they leapfrogged rivals Meole Brace and into a great 5th place, the highest for a new time since Castlefields came in back in 1995.

In the cups they didn’t manage a run, losing to St Georges by 21 in the 1st round of the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy and to Meole Brace by 40 in the BowlsTrader Pool A.
