2017 Review:
Meole Brace had a poor season in 2017 after falling down to 7th place, their lowest finish since 2000. They had a good start though beating their Shrewsbury rivals at home and then winning 9-5 at Hanmer. They got a good 7 at Ifton with players out, and won at Wrockwardine Wood after a 13-1 home win, but then their form dropped and didn’t manage more than 8 winners at home in the second half of the season, as well as losing their unbeaten record at home to Hanmer. They only scored 4 points from their last three away games, culminating in just scoring 119 at Sir John Bayley, which dropped them down to 7th. They did reach the Alan Mayhew Trophy Final though, but after being level off four against Hanwood they only managed one more winner to lose by 55. They lost first round of the Pool A comfortably.
2018 Aims:
Meole Brace have suffered the most losses out of any team for this season, with Darren Wellings, Colin Beaman, Craig Wilson and Pete Bound all leaving. They have signed the up and coming Kieran Jones, who won the Peter Ashton Youth Trophy on the green, as well as a couple more from the Tanners team and Jon Lyttle. But those will do well to match those that have left, and a season of struggle and transition could beckon. They still have a core of players who have played in the league for many years, so will hope that will keep them away from the bottom end of the table and can help stabilise the club. They have drawn Hadley USC in the Alan Mayhew Trophy so will think they should get through.
