Bylet face Derby, Horsehay have tough test, Hanmer aim to tame Dragons
Bylet face a derby in week 13 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they aim to win their first game since the opening day. Captain Cheryl Caswell says “we look forward to hosting our neighbours Highley and our ex homesters. They are a team we know really well, have a lot of respect for and who probably know our green as much as they know their own. So I expect another tough game and with players missing it’s going to be a tough ask but we look forward to the challenge.” Highley edged out Hanmer last week and are looking for their first away win of the season. Horsehay are just above the Bylet in the table, but have another tough test at home to 2022 Champions Wrockwardine Wood. Spokesman Steve Reeves says “we look forward to welcoming Wrockwardine to the Hoss. We all know that they are a team full of top players and looking to reclaim the Premier League title this season. But we hope to be able to give them a tough game and get as many points as we can ourselves to elevate us up the table.” The Wrockites know they will need a big win to keep up with table toppers Sir John Bayley, who host Wem USC. Wem have struggled away this season, just one haul of 4 points being their best so far. Castlefields are also at home tonight, but face a tougher test against a Hanwood side who have been in good form lately and now sit in 5th place, and did get 7 winners there last season.
Hanmer are showing signs of returning to the form of last season but face a tough home game against St Georges tonight, although the Dragons have been up and down recently with their form. Home skipper Ieuan Pugh says “we know they are a good side with some top players so we will have to be at our best. We’ve been in good form the last couple of weeks so hopefully we can build on that and maintain our good form. Hopefully the weather stays dry and we have a good night’s bowling.” Burway take on Meole Brace with Burway coming off two away losses and Meole off a good home win last season, although that was their first win in five. Ifton are looking to close in on the top three with a big home win over Adderley, who have only won one out of their last eight games and still need points to keep away from trouble at the bottom.
