Comments:
Castlefields came so close to ending their title drought but just dipped out by 5 points in the end. They struggled to get going at the start of the season only getting more than 7 winners twice in the first 8 home games, and their failure to win away till the last game of the season cost them to. They had plenty of chances to, losing narrowly in a few games, by 2 at Wem USC and 4 at Burway and drawing at Hadley USC. Their home form picked up the last third of the season beating Newport and Meole Brace 13-1 and Hadley USC 14-0. Their away win meant they finished in 2nd just one point ahead of St Georges in 3rd, thanks to Craig Elson winning last on.
They lost in the final of the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy against Meole Brace by 19 chalks, wasting some big leads in the game. They had beaten Hadley USC, St Georges and Bowring to get that far. In the BowlsTrader Pool A they lost to St Georges first game by 31 on Chester Road.
